I have been seeing Dr. Kahane for 6 years now after my PC referred me out to him for my analysis and can say, after much "shopping around" and trial of other providers, I am glad to have found one that fit when I found Dr. Kahane. He is an experienced and knowledgeable Doctor with an array of expertise in special areas that vary widely with each individuals' unique needs and treatment plans. He and his staff included have cared for me in a way that allows me to understand they have my best interests in mind. They listen carefully and make appropriate assessments. I think other patients with less than fair reviews need to remember that they are not the doctor, they are not the licensed professional who has a duty to assert a patient's best interest in a reasonable manner, staff included. Dr. Kahane and his team of staff work together, as any team should, to make sure that each patient is given the best possible outcomes to manage their conditions. I highly recommend this Doctor and office staff. This is the only Doctor I trust treating my 7 year old child also, for similar condition as mine. Which says a lot.
I had been treated for ADHD and a mood disorder for five years prior in another city. I went to four different clinics asking for the same drugs I had been using the last five years. I went to four different clinics over the course of a year who insisted on unnecessary cardiac testing, blood tests, and several other medications than the ones which worked fine for me over the last five years. They categorically refused to read prior psychological analysis/diagnosis/medical history faxed from the prior clinic and one by one refused to continue working with me as a patient. When Dr. Kahane received the records he immediately prescribed me the drugs I requested. When I was interested in replacing a medication because of adverse side effects I'd read about, Dr. Kahane agreed to put me on a new medication I'd researched. Dr. Kahane had no issues changing doses of medication at my request. Dr. Kahane will not refuse care to a patient for requesting a new or different medication or because of a desire to discontinue a medication. The longest part of a given appointment -- especially a med management appointment -- is Dr. Kahane physically writing the prescription. This is not an issue for me, because I thoroughly research my condition, medications and side effects and I know exactly which medications to request. Other patients might be put off by how abrupt he is. Because he is the only psychiatrist willing to give me the meds I need without running me through several different medications and unnecessary tests over the course of months, I rate Dr. Kahane very highly. I am, however, deeply concerned about Kahane's age. I am not concerned because he shows any lack of capacity to practice medicine, but I am concerned that he's "on his way out;" I believe he is at least 90 years old. If Kahane passes away I am not sure if I can find another provider willing to give me my medications with no questions asked. Another concern -- specifically with the Scottsdale location -- is that Kahane is only present on Monday. All physical prescriptions are written on Monday and all examinations or med management appointments are on Monday. His office generally requires a week's notice to get a new prescription.
