Dr. Amber Nicole Fontenot-Ferriss, M.D.

I have been seeing Dr. Fontaneau for several years and always feel like she gives me more attention and time than any other doctor that I've used. She easily spent 30-45 min answering my questions, something I've never experienced with another care provider. I'm only sad that she can't be my primary care physician, though I typically get my annual bloodwork in with the standard annual women's care appoint to avoid having to go to my PCP.

The office staff at Westside is not the most organized and sometimes I do wait a bit for my appointment, but it's no worse than any other doctor. There is a bit of a wait for Dr. Fontaneau's appointment slots - about 2 months - and they don't make appointments more than 6 months out, which can be frustrating if you just want to plan the same annual visit each year.

On September 3rd, I came in to west side women’s care for a late pregnancy membrane sweep. 
I’d started labor that morning at 4am. I’d been timing contractions all day and came to my appointment with notes. The office told me if I could make it to that appointment to stick with it and come in. 

Dr Ferris told me that it didn’t seem like labor and that the contractions weren’t meaningful so I should schedule an induction for the following day. My jaw hit the floor. But … I’m in labor. She didn’t make eye contact and seemed generally uninterested in hearing what I’d said. Or reading my notes of contraction times. 
My wife and I left that appointment confused and worried - had we imagined a full half day of labor?
And at that moment - my contractions went into high gear. I’d left my 1pm appointment with Dr Ferris confused and a bit gaslit… and delivered my baby just a couple hours later at the planned hospital. Thank goodness she wasn’t my doctor. I don’t believe she listened to me or my wife (were a two mom family) and she was genuinely wrong. 
I wish I’d had a chance for an apology. Midwife Jules delivered our baby boy that day and felt for us. Women should be heard-especially by other women.
