"Groups is a very good well good ain't even close enough to describe how much they really truly care about their patients I mean Dr Paul McCurry is one of the best doctors that I have met who really truly does care about his patients and actually knows what addiction is himself first hand not just from books so I would recommend this group to anyone who is serious about recovering from opioid addiction because it ain't no game it'll truly take your life from you if you don't get it under control and Dr Paul along with other staff there as I said don't just look at their patients as recovering drug addicts they look at each person as a human!!! I mean I can't say enough good stuff about this program because that would take days to write all the positives about this group!!! But I just want to personally thank each and every one of the staff at Groups Recover Together for the love and caring they show me along with everyone else!!! But mainly Dr Paul for his caring and understanding personality "

What is Addiction Medicine?

Addiction medicine is the diagnosis and medical treatment of addictions and substance abuse disorders. Addiction is a chronic disease of compulsive or uncontrollable behavior which may have adverse health effects. Addictions include substance abuse (such as the abuse of opioids, alcohol, or perscription drugs) and certain non-drug related behaviors such as gambling. Addiction medicine may help patients recover from their addictions and manage health conditions that have been affected by addiction.

Addiction medicine physicians are doctors who possess specialized training in substance abuse diagnosis and treatment. They can treat patients in rehabilitative treatment facilities, hospitals, and other clinical settings. Patients can be assessed through a variety of means such as diagnostic screening, substance abuse assessment, or psychiatric evaluation. Addiction medicine treatments may include:

Detoxification (withdrawal from an addictive substance)
Pharmacotherapy (prescription medications), such as buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone), disulfiram, and naltrexone to ease withdrawal symptoms
Addiction therapy and psychiatric care, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
Overdose treatment, such as the administration of naloxone (also known as Narcan)
Treatment for HIV/AIDs, hepatitis, or other conditions which may be associated with drug use
Prescription medicine for co-occurring psychiatric disorders
Twelve-step programs and support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Addiction medicine has expanded to include the treatment of patient substance abuse in a nonclinical setting. A number of community programs now provide at-risk substance users a safe place or means to use drugs and mobile doctor's services for drug associated illnesses and injuries.
