Pediatric Oncologists - Sioux Falls, SD

"Dr. George Maher seen my son Rydder as a patient at Sanford Children's as his Hem/Onc. My son had chronic neutropenia and lymphopenia. Dr. Maher treated my son with GCSF to cure the neutropneia but then tried to discharge us instead of take my concerns seriously about my sons chronic lymphopenia! When I got vocal about not wanting to be discharged he told me (after years of begging for answers about a true diagnoses and reasoning for these two chronic issues) that "some children don't have a diagnoses and you need to accept that". When I told him it's absolutely unacceptable to discharge a patient without getting to the bottom of something so serious he told me he "did his job and cured the neutropenia, what else did I want him to do" and that "lymphocytes aren't my job, you need to see immunology." When I asked him if he'd just "accept" that excuse if it were his child he told me I wasn't going to get personal with him and ended the conversation. He is a disgrace to the medical community and to Sanford. We decided to go out of state to Nebraska Medicine. I made the appointment the same day with Hem/Onc in Omaha. My son had ONE appointment where they ran a series of tests. We got a diagnoses of SCID about 3 weeks after that appointment and were in TRANSPLANT 3 months later! This man almost killed my son because his God complex wouldn't allow him to admit that he didn't know or didn't care in my opinion! He couldn't be wrong. He couldn't take a parent QUESTIONING his "authority". My son I'd alive today because I DIDNT accept this quacks recommendation. Thank God! If I could give ZERO stars I would. I hope every parent questions EVERYTHING when it pertains to their child. "
