"IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NEUROLOGIST, READ THIS REVIEW AND THEN KEEP LOOKING. THIS ISN'T THE NEUROLOGIST YOU WANT TO SELECT. I am a former patient of Dr. Peng's. I selected her after being involved in a non-fault rear end accident that almost totaled my car. In addition to the extreme soreness from the accident, I had incredible migraine headaches. I read a few good reviews and she was close to my home. From day one I indicated I was in a non-fault accident (where I was rear ended almost totaling my car) and that statements/letters and records would be needed for work and the accident claim. We discussed my migraines, sensitivity to light, work accommodations and periodic absences because of the migraines, etc. at each appointment for over a year. Upon conclusion of my treatment, I needed a written statement regarding my treatment that spoke to the severity of the migraine headaches, the treatment and the fact they were strong enough to keep me out of work (as I missed 15-18 days during the 14+ months of treatment). She refused to give me and/or my attorney a statement. Although my primary doctor, other doctors and attorney told me it is standard for doctors to provide these, she said it was not and that "upon written requests I’ll release your records" but refused to write a letter. I was and am still in shock. She didn’t have any problem writing statements to my insurance carrier to get paid after each of my appointments for that 14 months. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NEUROLOGIST, KEEP LOOKING. THIS ISN'T THE NEUROLOGIST YOU WANT TO SELECT."

What is Neurology?

Neurology is the study of the brain and nervous system, including the spinal cord and nerves. Disorders of the nervous system can affect many parts of the body, and a neurological exam must be quite thorough. A neurologist examining a new patient will check for any issues with:

motor skills (the way your brain and muscles work together)
sensory skills (sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell)
nerve function
coordination and balance
changes in mood or behavior

A neurologist can order different kinds of tests to check the function of the brain and nerves. These tests may include a head CT scan (a type of 3-dimensional x-ray), an electroencephalogram (which measures the electrical impulses inside the brain), an MRI (a detailed image of the brain or spinal cord), or electromyography (which uses electricity to test nerve function). Some neurological problems, such as certain brain tumors, may require surgical treatment. Since neurologists do not perform surgery, they will refer patients who need operations to a surgical subspecialist, such as a neurosurgeon. Beyond surgery, a neurologist might recommend any of the following treatments:

medication (such as interferon for MS or topiramate for migraines)
laser therapy (class IV laser treatment is sometimes used to alleviate peripheral neuropathy pain)
physical therapy (stretches and exercises can increase balance and range of motion, helping patients to move more easily and with less pain)
