"I found Dr. Welch to be condescending, unprofessional, and not at all thorough. He didn’t introduce himself, rather started my appointment by looking down at my paperwork and impatiently asking “Why are you here?” He made me feel like I had no business coming for an appointment or asking him to assess whether I had a deviated septum, asking me after a pause, “Why is that of interest to you?” I was stunned that he asked me to validate why I’d want that information about my own body. He made his assessment and treatment plan after looking at my ears nose and throat for probably less than 60 seconds total and asking questions that suggested he hadn’t taken any time to look at my chart or the paperwork I’d filled out in the office. I was told by a nurse that the doctor would be performing a scope but he didn’t do it, or provide a reason as to why not. I mentioned severe, chronic ear pain, which he did not acknowledge or recommend treatment for. The entire experience left me feeling humiliated and I just agreed to trial medications (something I’d told the nurse I wasn’t interested in, a message she would have passed on to the doctor) so I could end the appointment, as it was clear that that’s all he was going to offer.
