"We have used Sarah's services for 4+ years with no complaints. In one appointment, I had lesions removed from my face (cosmetic) and I understood the out of pocket cost through my insurance. This was a planned cosmetic procedure that is a quick zap by the dermatologist. On 3/6/23, my annual appointment was concluding with no issues. At the last minute Sarah asked if I wanted to take care of some spot around my temple. Sensing that this was just a friendly ask, I said yes. Very quickly she zapped the spot and that was it. No blood, no pain. This procedure cost $135 ($100 after insurance). My problem is the way she went about it. As I said above, I have had multiple skin tags cosmetically removed from my face and I will gladly pay for that. But to sneak in a quick zap at the end of the appointment just felt wrong. I felt that this was unnecessary and had I known about the cost I would have quickly said no. In conclusion, I paid the bill and cancelled our next annual appointment with Health First Dermatology. We will not be recommending this service and will find another provider. "

What is Surgical Dermatology?

Dermatologic surgery is skin surgery to correct medical issues or improve appearance. Specialists in dermatologic surgery are called surgical dermatologists.

One of the most important procedures performed by surgical dermatologists is called Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is an extremely precise type of cancer removal that leaves healthy tissue behind. It has the highest success rate of all skin cancer surgeries.

Beyond Mohs surgery, dermatologic surgeons may perform reconstructive surgery to restore function and appearance to skin damaged by trauma or a previous surgery. They can treat or remove growths and marks on the surface of the skin, including scars, moles, skin tags, and birthmarks. Most dermatologic surgeons also offer cosmetic treatments, which may include:

Hair transplants
Laser hair removal
Laser resurfacing to treat sun damage, age spots, or wrinkles
Tattoo removal
Sclerotherapy to treat varicose veins
Liposuction to remove unwanted fat
Anti-aging treatments such as Botox, injectable fillers, or chemical peels
