Obstetricians and Gynecologists - Bakersfield, CA

"I went to see Dr Rivera for a new patient consultation. I am a repeat surrogate looking for an OB for prenatal for any further pregnancies. My appointment went well with her. We went over my history, did a physical. I explained I was looking for a new OB for a new surro journey, and was “interviewing” her and more docs, but I did like her and I asked her if she was comfortable moving forward with me as a new OB patient. She told me she was comfortable and didn’t see any reason for concern and I then asked if I could get a letter stating she was comfortable being my new ob for a future pregnancy to which she agreed. She took me to the back desk where the medical assistances are and asked them get the letter for me. I needed to email in my most recent pap so I got their emails and told them I would come back for the letter. I called Monday and was told dr wasn’t in but the letter would be ready Tuesday. I sent an email with my pap and asking for the letter and exactly what I needed include in the letter to Samantha the MA. When I went in to pick up the letter it wasn’t what I needed and when I questioned it I was told Dr Rivera now found me to be high risk, using all the same information that was discussed at my appointment. I was confused by this since Dr Rivera had not mentioned any concerns at all during my appointment. I asked what had changed and was told “I don’t know” I asked to speak with Dr Rivera but was told she was with patient. I told them I’d be happy to wait at which point the office manager came out to speak with me I again asked what had changed since my appointment and again was told I do not know. I asked again to speak with Doctor after a 30 min wait I was called back to a room. Dr. Rivera came into the room I addressed her ask her how her day was and she replied with “it was great until I had to have this conversation” I replied I’m sorry to hear that. She then begun to tell me she was “the provider” and she didn’t have to see anyone. To which I replied “ that’s absolutely correct and I totally understand that however when I was here with you at my appointment you were” I was cut off and told “ I never said I would provide care for you” which was a gross lie. She would not allow me to finish a sentence and walked out of the room. I completely understand that a doctor doesn’t have to provide care to any patient they don’t want to and that’s not my issue. The fact that she had no concerns during my appointment and agreed to a letter of new care and was now calling me A liar and saying she never said she was comfortable moving forward with me is my issue. She was aware I was asking for the letter if at any point she changed her mind and no longer felt comfortable she should have had someone call me. She acted like me wanting an explanation was an inconvenience to her and her disrespectful act of telling me I was making up the conversation we had at my appointment is gross and very unprofessional. If she wasn’t comfortable any more which is her right I still deserve to understand what changed. She is a gross human for attemptI got to make me feel Ike less of a human and like I was wasting her time. In actuality she wasted my time and my energy is she just told me at my appointment or anytime before I walked through the door to pick up the letter I would have moved on to the next dr. I had 3 appointment lined up to interview other doctors but I canceled those because she told me she was comfortable moving forward as my OB during pregnancy. Medication and an IVF timeline have now been interrupted because she has backed out of the care she said she was comfortable giving. She treated me like my time wasn’t important and that my questions brought on by her flip flop wear an inconvenience to her. People should be treated like that. She should be absolutely ashamed, we both know what was said about my appointment and who is the lair. The handling of this situation was gross. I absolutely did tell her how I felt before I walked away for the last interaction. I don’t mind telling shitty people including doctors when they are being shitty humans. "
